After WR Suspension, Packers GM Addresses the Media

Despite the absence of Aaron Rodgers, drama continues to reveal within the Green Bay Packers’ locker room. A young standout player is unhappy with his current position on the team and has opted to take matters into his own hands.

Wide receiver Romeo Doubs has chosen to skip several recent practices due to his frustration over limited targets in the passing game. Consequently, the Packers have taken the step to suspend him for their upcoming matchup against the Los Angeles Rams.

In light of this situation, Packers GM Brian Gutekunst issued a statement expressing the team’s disappointment with Doubs’ actions, which he noted had a detrimental effect on the squad (via Adam Schefter).

“We were forced to make the tough decision to suspend Romeo for this week’s game. His choices and actions throughout the week had a negative impact on the team, necessitating this action.

Although we are disappointed, we believe we can move forward positively. Romeo is an important part of our team, and we look forward to having him back next week,” Gutekunst stated.

He emphasized that Doubs remains a valuable asset to the organization and expressed confidence in their ability to resolve this matter constructively. Currently, Doubs ranks third on the team with 20 targets, just two behind teammates Dontayvion Wicks and Jayden Reed.

In the loss against the Minnesota Vikings, he received 13 of those 20 targets.

Coming off a breakout 2023 season, in which he recorded 96 targets—significantly more than any other player on the team—his reduced role in the passing game has been largely due to the Packers’ run-heavy offensive strategy during the two games that Jordan Love missed due to injury.

While his frustration regarding the lack of opportunities is understandable, his approach to addressing the issue has not been appropriate.
