Legendary Patrick Ewing Announces New Job Opportunity

The majority of Patrick Ewing’s illustrious NBA career was spent with the New York Knicks, where he remains a beloved figure among the franchise’s fans. Years after hanging up his sneakers, Ewing is set to make a return.

Malika Andrews reported on Friday morning that Ewing will rejoin the Knicks in the role of “basketball ambassador.” In this capacity, Ewing will collaborate closely with head coach Tom Thibodeau and the team’s front office.

The title itself is somewhat vague, granting Ewing the flexibility to assume a variety of responsibilities. However, the key takeaway is that Ewing is back with the Knicks just as the team is garnering excitement and attention.

A seven-time All-NBA selection, Ewing is back to share his wealth of experience with the Knicks (NBA)

In a statement released on Friday, Ewing expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “I will always be a Knick and I will always be New York. I can’t wait to get started in this new position and to officially be back with the organization that I love so much.”

During his 15 seasons with the Knicks, he averaged 22.8 points and 10.4 rebounds. Ewing was a seven-time All-NBA selection, the 1985-86 Rookie of the Year, and an 11-time All-Star while donning the Knicks uniform.

After departing the team following the 1999-00 season, he played for the Seattle SuperSonics and finished his career with the Orlando Magic, retiring in 2002. Post-retirement, Ewing transitioned into coaching, serving as an assistant for teams including the Washington Wizards, Houston Rockets, and Orlando Magic.

Now, after years of coaching in various capacities, Ewing is returning to the Knicks, who are well-positioned to achieve success in the Eastern Conference this season. With potential for their best season in years, Ewing will be there to witness it all uncovered.
