JJ Redick Defends Lakers Player, Calls Out Reporter for Question

As the new head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers, JJ Redick has taken on a serious challenge. He’s not only responsible for creating strategies for his team but must also pass the demands of the LA front office and the constant attention from the media.

In a recent video shared by Devin on X, Redick can be seen responding firmly to a reporter’s question about Rui Hachimura. When asked whether he thinks Hachimura can take “the next step” in the 2024-25 season, Redick countered by asking, “What is the next step?”

After the reporter struggled to clarify, Redick bluntly said, “You tell me. You’re the one creating the narrative…I don’t care about next step, I care about how he impacts winning.”

Although Redick went on to discuss aspects of Hachimura’s game that the team will focus on to maximize his contribution, he made it clear he wasn’t satisfied with the question. For those familiar with Redick’s outspoken style in recent years, his reaction wasn’t surprising.

Throughout his time as a TV commentator, Redick consistently challenged conventional NBA views and wasn’t afraid to offer bold opinions. Now, as a head coach, it seems that fearless attitude remains intact. Redick is committed to backing his players, and it’s likely this won’t be the last heated exchange between him and the media.
