Introducing the Rolls-Royce Spectre Lunaflair: A Unique Masterpiece

The breathtaking Spectre Lunaflair has been introduced by Rolls-Royce, crafted as a bespoke commission for a prominent client in the United States. The standout feature of this landmark vehicle is its stunning holographic paint finish, which creates a mesmerizing ‘rainbow’ effect.

Drawing inspiration from the optical phenomenon of a lunar halo, the commission’s name reflects the colorful circle of light that encircles the moon. This phenomenon occurs when moonlight passes through ice crystals in high-altitude cirrus clouds, acting as microscopic prisms that refract light and produce attractive, technicolor ring effect, akin to the way light refracts through a diamond.

Rolls-Royce’s Bespoke Collective developed the Spectre Lunaflair as a lighter, more luminous interpretation of the Phantom Syntopia’s iridescent finish (Rolls-Royce)

Creating this unique paint finish involved over a year of rigorous experimentation. Extensive trials were conducted on paint chemistry, application timings, and base coats to align with the client’s vision. The finish consists of seven lacquer layers, including a specially formulated pearlescent coat blended with fine flakes of magnesium fluoride and aluminum. This blend generates a deep metallic effect in low light and radiates rainbow colors when exposed to bright sunlight.

The concept for Spectre Lunaflair was partially influenced by the one-of-a-kind Phantom Syntopia, which debuted in 2023. It showcases a dark, iridescent Liquid Noir finish that incorporates color-shifting, mirror-like pigments.

Inspired by the Phantom Syntopia’s striking appearance, the commissioning patron tasked the Bespoke Collective with creating a lighter, more luminous interpretation that embodies their fascination with the lunar halo.

This interplay of ideas highlights the essence of the Bespoke process, where previous commissions inspire new concepts and narratives. For the marque’s Bespoke Collective of designers, engineers, and craftsmen, this continuous cycle of creativity fosters fresh opportunities for artistic advancement.

To match the Spectre Lunaflair’s dramatic exterior, a fully bespoke interior has been designed. The color palette includes Navy Blue, White, and Peony Pink tones, reminiscent of the shades observed during a lunar halo. These hues are present on the seats, doors, and Starlight Headliner, extending to the dual-tone steering wheel, featuring a Navy exterior and an Arctic White inner side.

Only a single Spectre Lunaflair will be manufactured, and the exclusive Lunaflair paint finish is reserved solely for the commissioning patron.
