Joe Wolf Remembered for His Tenure with the Hornets and Greensboro Swarm (Charlotte Hornets)

Originally from Kohler, Wisconsin, he made his way to college in North Carolina, where he became teammates with a young Michael Jordan during his freshman year.

Wolf quickly established himself as a standout college player, earning first-team All-ACC honors and being selected 13th overall by the Los Angeles Clippers in the 1987 NBA Draft.

He later had a varied NBA career, playing for the Denver Nuggets, Boston Celtics, and Portland Trail Blazers before joining the Hornets. After his time in Charlotte, he also played for the Orlando Magic, Milwaukee Bucks, and returned to the Nuggets.

Although he may not have been a player who consistently logged heavy minutes, he enjoyed a lengthy career and made valuable contributions to several teams.

Following his playing days, Wolf transitioned into coaching, taking positions with various colleges and G League teams in Idaho, Colorado, and Greensboro. At the time of his death, he was serving as an assistant coach for the Wisconsin Herd, bringing him back to his roots where it all began.

His unexpected passing has deeply affected multiple teams across the league. Wolf will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by many in the basketball community.
