Pelicans Strengthen Coaching Staff by Hiring Former Lakers Guard

Transitioning from player to coach is a common path for former NBA athletes, who often leverage their game knowledge and star management skills. This shift is typically a logical step for those looking to stay involved in the league.

According to Legion Hoops, Jodie Meeks, known for his stints with teams like the Milwaukee Bucks, Philadelphia 76ers, and Los Angeles Lakers, has been appointed as an assistant coach for the New Orleans Pelicans.

Meeks Earned a Championship Ring with the Raptors Before Starting His Coaching Career (New Orleans Pelicans)

Meeks wrapped up his playing career in 2019, contributing to the Toronto Raptors’ championship victory. He earned a ring in his final season, marking a triumphant end to his playing days.

Afterward, Meeks participated in the Big 3 league before embarking on his coaching journey. His coaching experience includes a stint with the Birmingham Squadron, the Pelicans’ G League affiliate.

Impressed by Meeks’ performance in that role, the Pelicans decided to raise him within the coaching staff, aiming for his transition to the NBA. He will now play a key role on the sidelines during a pivotal season for the Pelicans.

There are numerous questions surrounding the team as they head into the 2024-25 season. Both fans and the front office are eager to witness the Pelicans advance deep into the playoffs, particularly with a healthy and fit Zion Williamson back in action.

However, the addition of Dejounte Murray during the summer is expected to bolster their prospects for the upcoming season. Meeks will collaborate closely with the players, utilizing his extensive knowledge to help them make an impact in the competitive Western Conference.
