NBA Teams Would Find It Tough to Win in Greece, Says Patrick Beverley

In recent years, the NBA has increasingly embraced playing games abroad, which comes with numerous advantages. However, it also presents certain obstacles. During a recent episode of his podcast, Patrick Beverley discussed the atmosphere surrounding Panathinaikos, Greece’s top basketball team, and perhaps the biggest in Europe.

In a clip shared by NBACentral, Beverley remarked that it would be incredibly challenging for an NBA team to secure a victory in Greece given the intensity of the crowd.

NBA players would face a daunting environment, surrounded by 50,000 passionate fans, constantly cheering and jeering at every moment. This experience would be unlike any typical NBA game.

The atmosphere in Greece is vastly different compared to the U.S., as both the massive crowd size and outdoor venue add unique challenges, but the fans’ energy truly sets it apart.

Much like other European sports fans, Panathinaikos supporters remain engaged, singing, chanting, and reacting to every moment of the game. Beverley emphasized how every missed shot would sting even more, while every point scored by the opposing team would feel like a game-winner.

The intensity would be heightened if an NBA team played in Greece. Though the NBA hasn’t planned any games there at the moment, this could change in the future.

Commissioner Adam Silver continues his efforts to expand the league’s global reach, and while playing in Greece would be tough for NBA players, it could certainly benefit the league’s international presence.
