A U.S. release date has been announced for “Bonus Track,” marking the feature directorial debut of Julia Jackman. The film, written by Mike Gilbert with a story by Josh O’Connor, is set to attract audiences soon.
This coming-of-age queer rom-com features Joe Anders, known for “1917,” alongside Samuel Small from “So Awkward.” The film is bolstered by a talented ensemble cast, including Ray Panthaki (“Boiling Point”), Susan Wokoma (“Enola Holmes”), Jack Davenport (“Ten Percent”), Alison Sudol from the “Fantastic Beasts” series, and O’Connor himself in a cameo role.
Taking place in 2006 England, the narrative centers on 16-year-old aspiring musician George (Anders) as he forms a friendship with Max (Small), the son of a renowned musical duo, while preparing for a year-end talent show. Their relationship develops in surprising ways.
Having debuted at the BFI London Film Festival, “Bonus Track” was released in the U.K. as a Sky Original film. The project is a collaboration between Erebus Pictures and Sky, in association with Lunapark Pictures and Fortune Films. Bankside Films, which handled international sales, sold the U.S. rights to Sunrise.
The film is set to hit U.S. theaters on October 11, coinciding with National Coming Out Day. Founded by Rupert Preston, CEO of Vertigo Releasing, and chair Nigel Williams, Sunrise Films focuses on production and international distribution.
The company’s production credits include titles like “The Accused” and “Gassed Up.” In terms of distribution, Sunrise has released films such as “Beneath the Surface,” “The Girl in the Trunk,” “After Love,” and “Law of Tehran” in the U.S. They have also recently acquired Luna Carmoon’s Venice winner “Hoard” and the action thriller “Sunray” for U.S. release.
