Courteney Cox Comments on Unconfirmed Status for ‘Scream 7,’ Anticipates Dewey’s Involvement: ‘They Have to Sort It Out’

Cox expressed her feelings about the situation, saying, “Talk about a missed character! Dewey is so loved by ‘Scream’ fans, and they have to figure it out.” She shared her thoughts during the Rock4EB charity event on Saturday. While she confirmed she is not officially signed on yet, Cox noted, “There will be a ‘Scream 7.’”
Her enthusiasm for the project is clear, especially since it will be the first time Kevin Williamson directs a “Scream” film. Williamson, who penned the script for the original 1996 movie, stepped in as director for this installment after Christopher Landon left the project in late December. “You can’t get better than that choice,” Cox remarked about Williamson, adding, “It’s going to be fun.”

Cox also mentioned that she is not rushing her decision, stating, “They’re rewriting all the time. It’s not like I don’t know what’s going on.” Previously, Campbell informed IndieWire that filming is scheduled to commence in December in Atlanta, after delays due to the conflicting schedules of herself and Williamson.
Since Campbell confirmed her return in March, there have been no further casting announcements for “Scream 7.” Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega, who appeared in the first two films of the reboot, will not be part of the seventh installment. Barrera was let go from “Scream 7” last year due to social media posts regarding Israel, while Ortega’s commitment to Netflix’s “Wednesday” conflicted with the filming schedule.
