During last night’s episode of “WWE NXT,” CM Punk made an unexpected appearance at the contract signing between Ethan Page and Trick Williams for the NXT Championship.
He revealed that he would serve as the special guest referee for their match scheduled for October 1 on The CW. Although Punk had been pre-announced for the event back in August due to its location in his hometown of Chicago, his specific role remained uncertain until this announcement.
Following the show, Page took to social media to react to Punk’s involvement, stating, “This man better pray he’s the Best Ref in the World too.”
Punk’s appearance on “NXT” is strategically timed, as it occurs just four days before his Hell in a Cell match against Drew McIntyre at Bad Blood.
This situation raises the possibility of McIntyre showing up on the developmental brand for the first time since 2017, potentially interfering with Punk’s refereeing.
Page’s journey with Williams began at Battleground in June, where he fell short in his bid for the NXT Championship.
However, just a month later at Heatwave, Page triumphed over Williams, Je’Von Evans, and Shawn Spears in a Fatal-Four-Way match, claiming the NXT Championship. Since then, he has successfully defended his title three times.
