Mick Foley Reflects on Aborted Plans for His Last WWE Match

Letting go of wrestling can be a struggle for many, as shown by the countless performers who have returned after announcing their retirement or made surprise appearances. Mick Foley, a WWE legend, stirred excitement when he hinted at doing one final death match to mark his 60th birthday.

However, the former WWE Hardcore Champion quickly had to abandon the idea due to the toll his body has taken over the years. In a recent interview with “Wrestling Life Online,” Foley shared his surprise at the buzz surrounding his potential comeback.

“I got a kick out of seeing all the excitement once I hinted at it,” Foley laughed, revealing he even had a secret meeting with former AEW World Champion MJF to discuss a possible storyline. “MJF came up with a really intriguing angle, and I was so impressed that I called him first to say, ‘I think this is the end for me. I suffered a concussion doing next to nothing.'”

According to Foley, MJF, who had put a lot of thought into the angle, showed incredible creativity, but the return just wasn’t in the cards. “It’s not going to happen,” Foley admitted, explaining that his goal for returning wasn’t really about stepping back into the ring but more about improving his fitness. Still, he’s pleased with the progress he’s made in his weight loss journey.

Foley’s last in-ring appearance was at the 2012 Royal Rumble, though he has continued to appear on WWE TV in various roles, including a stint as “WWE Raw” General Manager. He’s also remained active in the wrestling community, attending conventions and making indie appearances.
