Megan Thee Stallion, an acclaimed Grammy Award winner with millions of albums and singles sold worldwide, has now made her presence felt on “WWE SmackDown.”
Her latest track, “Neva Play,” featuring RM from BTS, was selected as the show’s official theme song following its return to the USA Network. However, this development seems to have complicated a potential collaboration between Stallion and a top star from All Elite Wrestling.
According to PWInsider, there were initial plans for Stallion to partner with AEW TBS Champion Mercedes Mone. Reports indicate that the two first crossed paths at the Crunchyroll Anime Awards in Japan, where they quickly became friends after discovering their mutual admiration for each other.
This led to discussions between their managers about collaborating in some capacity, with talks dating back as far as 2021. Mone, now part of AEW, had been hoping to bring Stallion into the wrestling world, potentially even involving her in an in-ring appearance. Mone had openly hinted at this partnership ahead of AEW’s All In London event on August 25.
However, with “Neva Play” now serving as the theme for “SmackDown,” Mone and her team were reportedly taken by surprise. Although WWE’s agreement to feature Stallion’s music weekly doesn’t entirely rule out a collaboration with Mone, PWInsider suggests that the WWE deal has made things more complicated, leaving uncertainty over whether the original plans between the two can still move forward.
