Konnan Reflects on Ricochet’s Time in Lucha Underground Versus His Run in WWE

Many fans of AEW have likely followed Ricochet throughout various stages of his career, including his time in Dragon Gate, NJPW, and WWE. However, his first exposure to a mainstream American audience came through his role in Lucha Underground.

Portraying Prince Puma, Ricochet became a standout star in the promotion, known for performances against competitors like Johnny Mundo (now Johnny TV), The Lucha Brothers, and Rey Mysterio, which eventually led to his signing with WWE in 2018.

Konnan said he never saw the Ricochet from Lucha Underground or his matches in Tijuana during his WWE run (WWE)

Konnan, who played a pivotal role in bringing Ricochet to Lucha Underground due to the promotion’s connection with AAA in Mexico, recently discussed Ricochet’s impact both inside and outside the ring on the “Keepin’ It 100” podcast.

He expressed his admiration for Ricochet’s talent, stating, “I said it back then and I’ll say it now, after Rey Mysterio, there was nobody to me that was as good as Ricochet was.” Konnan reminisced about their time together in Los Angeles, recalling how all the women were drawn to Ricochet’s charm. “He was super cool, he dressed good, he danced good; like I told you, he reminded me a lot of Chris Brown. He had that type of swag.”

Despite Konnan’s high regard for Ricochet’s abilities, he believes the wrestler did not fully showcase his potential during his WWE tenure. Konnan pointed out that WWE’s restrictive approach hindered Ricochet’s ability to perform at his best, saying, “I never saw the Ricochet I saw on Lucha Underground. I never saw the Ricochet that I saw in Tijuana.”
