WWE Release Brings ‘Relief’ for Matt Riddle; He Hints at Possible AEW Arrival

Following his departure from WWE in 2023, Matt Riddle, who enjoyed a five-year stint capturing the United States, “Raw” Tag Team, and “NXT” Tag Team Championships, is now signed with MLW. Despite this, Riddle has recently hinted at the possibility of joining AEW during a discussion with “Sports Illustrated.”

In his conversation, Riddle praised AEW, acknowledging its appeal and expressing familiarity with many individuals currently employed there. He noted that AEW’s environment aligns well with his preferences.

Reflecting on his WWE career, Riddle admitted that the high visibility and demanding schedule contributed to considerable stress. “The pressure of performing on TV several times a week was intense,” he confessed, recognizing both his fondness for pressure and the challenges it presented.

Riddle suggested that a move to AEW could offer financial benefits and a more manageable schedule. After his WWE release, he preferred stepping out of the limelight to focus on indie wrestling.

He also mentioned MLW’s collaboration with NJPW, while subtly implying that AEW could be a feasible option. Additionally, Riddle speculated about a potential WWE return, drawing a parallel to CM Punk’s comeback after his previous departure.
