How Likely Is Matt Riddle’s Arrival in AEW? Recent Developments Explained

Nearly a year after his WWE departure, Matt Riddle recently hinted at a potential move to All Elite Wrestling, expressing a desire to increase his earnings and work a favorable television schedule. However, a new report suggests that this possibility may not be as likely as it seems.

Fightful Select indicates that AEW President Tony Khan has shown little to no interest in signing Riddle, especially in recent years. Though Riddle has shared the ring with several AEW talents, including Brian Cage, Dralistico, Komander, Penta El Zero Miedo, and The Beast Mortos, these encounters occurred in Mexican-based promotions rather than in the U.S. AEW circuit, which limits the likelihood of any immediate deal with Khan.

Riddle also recently reflected on an encounter he had with Tony Khan after losing to Zack Sabre Jr. at the NJPW Windy City Riot event in April 2024. Describing the interaction, Riddle noted that while Khan initially appeared pleased, things quickly became awkward.

Riddle remarked that Khan seemed confused when asked if he enjoyed the match, particularly due to the unusual tone in which the question was posed. Since parting ways with WWE, Riddle has been active on the independent scene, performing in various promotions throughout Mexico, Canada, and the United States.

He has also competed for New Japan Pro-Wrestling and Major League Wrestling. Riddle’s most recent MLW appearance was at the Summer Of The Beasts event on August 29, where he claimed victory over former MLW World Tag Team Champion Matthew Justice.
