Reuniting after 36 years, Kevin Costner and Susan Sarandon, the stars of Ron Shelton’s classic baseball romance “Bull Durham,” came together once again at the 81st annual Venice Film Festival.
Sharing a nostalgic moment, Costner posted a photo with Sarandon on Instagram, expressing his joy at reconnecting. “Great to see you [Susan Sarandon],” he wrote. “We’ve come a long way since our ‘Bull Durham’ days.”
Sarandon, who received a Golden Globe nomination for her role in the 1988 film, and Costner met up on September 5 at the Better World Fund’s philanthropy event held at Venice’s Cipriani Hotel. The Better World Fund described the event on Instagram as dedicated to “supporting women’s empowerment through the vector of art.” They highlighted the Cipriani Hotel’s historic and elegant setting as a fitting backdrop for the event, which promised a memorable blend of art and philanthropy.
While Sarandon is being honored by the Better World Fund, Costner is also in Venice to promote the second part of his Western epic, “Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 2.” In addition to directing, Costner stars alongside Sienna Miller, Giovanni Ribisi, Sam Worthington, Ella Hunt, Will Patton, Luke Wilson, and Kathleen Quinlan.
Both parts of “Horizon” have been financed largely by Costner himself. The first chapter, which cost approximately $100 million to produce, underperformed at the global box office, earning only about $34 million. Although “Chapter 2” will have a prominent debut in Venice, its theatrical release remains uncertain following its removal from the August 16 release schedule in July.
