‘A Distant Place’ Starring Ernesto Alterio and Soledad Villamil Makes Iberseries Forum Debut with Rizoma’s Support

Chilean producer Sebastián Freund from Rizoma Films, along with Argentine actors Ernesto Alterio and Soledad Villamil, will feature in Alberto Lecchi’s forthcoming film “A Distant Place” (“Un lugar lejano”).

This project, which is set to be highlighted at the Iberseries & Platino Industria Co-Production Forum in Madrid, involves key production companies including Argentina’s Twins Latin Films and Spain’s Filmakers Monkeys. Rizoma Films is also a co-producer for the drama.

Written by Gerardo Pranteda, the screenplay centers on a pianist and a history teacher striving for a second chance at love while dealing with the devastating effects of a serious illness on the musician’s perception of reality. Twins Latin Films CEO and producer Lorena Quevedo expressed excitement about the film’s exploration of love, memory, and frontotemporal dementia, a condition seldom depicted in cinema, offering a unique and empathetic perspective.

Based in Córdoba, Argentina, Twins Latin Films recently released “Almamula,” which premiered at the Berlinale, and Rodrigo Guerrero’s “Salvajes,” both now streaming on Prime Video. Freund praised the experience of co-producing “Salvajes,” set to debut on Prime Video on September 24.

He conveyed his enthusiasm for “A Distant Place,” highlighting its engaging themes and the impressive cast, including Chilean actor Clemente Rodríguez, Sergio Armstrong as the director of photography, and editor Andrea Chignoli. Freund anticipates the project will make an international impact, given its talented team and compelling narrative.

Since its establishment in 2009 by Quevedo and Pablo Di Patrizio, Twins Latin Films has built a robust co-production model, partnering with France, Germany, Italy, Mexico, and Chile.

The film’s development will proceed with participation in the Iberseries Co-Production Forum, following its recent accolade at the Guadalajara Film Festival’s Co-Production Meeting. Quevedo mentioned exploring the addition of a Mexican producer and is open to collaborating with partners from other regions.

She views the film as an opportunity to produce a highly artistic work that resonates with universal emotions, facilitating natural co-productions among Ibero-American countries and catering to their diverse markets and audiences. Filming for “A Distant Place” is slated to commence in June 2025, with locations including Madrid, Córdoba, Mendoza in Argentina, and Santiago, Chile.
