Volvo EX30 Uncovered in Malaysia: Powerful Dual-Motor AWD with 428 PS, 543 Nm, 3.6 Secs 0-100 km/h, and 450 km Range

We recently shared the first look at the Volvo EX30 in Malaysia, but now, we’ve also had the chance to test drive this compact electric vehicle. Our reviewer, Gerard Lye, took the EX30, still sporting its promotional camouflage, for a spin and has provided a comprehensive gallery of the SUV.

The EX30 will be available locally in its top-tier Twin Motor Performance version, boasting an impressive 428 PS (315 kW) and 543 Nm of torque. This powerful setup allows the nimble SUV to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in a swift 3.6 seconds, with an electronically capped top speed of 180 km/h.

It shares its powertrain with the smart #1 Brabus, featuring the same Sustainable Experience Architecture (SEA) and powered by a 69 kWh nickel manganese cobalt (NMC) battery, which provides a range of up to 450 km. Fast charging capabilities enable the battery to go from 10% to 80% in just 26.5 minutes at a rate of up to 175 kW.

Interestingly, the EX30’s Twin Motor Performance model is set to be introduced in Malaysia, whereas in Indonesia, only rear-wheel-drive variants are available. The EX30 is built locally and includes features such as a panoramic glass roof, a 360-degree camera system, and power-adjustable front seats with memory settings and lumbar support. It supports 22 kW AC charging, cutting the full charge time to four hours.

The Ultra trim includes Thor’s Hammer LED headlights, a contrast Onyx Black Metallic roof, and 19-inch two-tone alloy wheels. The interior is outfitted with dual-zone climate control, a Qi wireless charger, a nine-speaker Harman Kardon audio system, and a hands-free powered tailgate. Driver assistance features include Pilot Assist Level 2.

At 4,223 mm long, 1,837 mm wide, and 1,555 mm tall, the EX30 is the smallest Volvo in years, smaller than the XC40. Its minimalist design is marked by Thor’s Hammer headlights and split taillights. Inside, the EX30 has eliminated traditional instrument clusters in favor of a 12.3-inch touchscreen that controls most functions, including climate control and mirror adjustments. Recycled materials are used extensively, including denim fibers and PET from bottles.

Volvo is launching the EX30 on September 25, with a test drive event scheduled at KL Base in Sungai Besi from September 26 to 29. An Instagram contest is also underway, offering vouchers for selected cafés to those who share photos of the camouflaged vehicles. Pricing details have not yet been released, but the AWD model is expected to be priced below RM278,888, making it an affordable option compared to the XC40 Recharge Ultimate.
