However, the budget-friendly Saga remained Proton’s bestseller, with 6,211 units sold in August, bringing its YTD total to 48,904 units, a 6.7% improvement over the previous year. Other models like the S70 sedan, Persona, and the flagship X90 SUV also contributed, while the Iriz hatchback saw 403 buyers in August.
Proton’s CEO of Edar, Roslan Abdullah, expressed optimism about Malaysia’s automotive market, citing the Malaysian Automotive Association’s projection of 765,000 units for 2024, boosted by the nation’s steady economic growth. Despite increased competition, Proton’s updated models have received positive market feedback, reflecting the strength of its 3S/4S network.
On the export front, the Saga led with 140 units sold in August, contributing to a total of 2,110 units shipped this year. Brunei set a record, selling 120 Proton units in a single month, marking a milestone for the brand.
