The Green Bay Packers endured a rough start to their 2024 NFL season, falling to the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 1. However, the loss wasn’t the main talking point after the game. During the Packers’ final drive, quarterback Jordan Love suffered a leg injury, requiring assistance to leave the field. The sight of Love on the ground in visible discomfort raised concerns, but later tests brought some relief—he avoided any major structural damage, diagnosed instead with an MCL sprain.
Though the injury isn’t severe, Love is expected to miss several weeks, which could severely impact Green Bay’s hopes of making a postseason run. In the interim, Malik Willis is set to step in as the starting quarterback, but the Packers are reportedly seeking additional reinforcements for their depth chart.
Rumors suggest Green Bay has its sights set on veteran quarterback Ryan Tannehill as a possible addition, according to Dianna Russini of The Athletic. Although no deal is currently in place, Russini reported that the Packers have contacted Tannehill, who is currently a free agent. The former Tennessee Titans quarterback mentioned over the summer that he’d only sign with a team under the “right situation.”
Tannehill lost his starting role to rookie Will Levis last season and is now without a team. Despite being beyond his prime years, Tannehill could serve as a reliable stopgap for Green Bay while Love recovers from his injury. His experience and familiarity with the role could provide some stability until their starting quarterback returns to the lineup.
