NBA Star Kevin Durant Weighs in with Unlikely NFL MVP Choice

The Dallas Cowboys have struggled to be Super Bowl contenders for decades, often falling short during the playoffs despite persistent efforts. Yet, this year, NBA star Kevin Durant sees potential in Dak Prescott for the MVP award, considering the Cowboys’ strong regular-season performance.

In a conversation with Kay Adams, Durant acknowledged that while Lamar Jackson, Jalen Hurts, and Patrick Mahomes are top MVP candidates, Prescott should not be overlooked. Durant, a known fan of the Washington Commanders, admitted his personal bias against the Cowboys made this endorsement somewhat begrudging.

Prescott was a renowned MVP contender last season but faltered in key games against top teams. Recently, the Cowboys extended Prescott’s contract by four years, making him the highest-paid quarterback in the team’s history with an impressive annual salary of $60 million. This hefty deal brings increased scrutiny, and while the inflated quarterback market is not Prescott’s fault, he will be under immense pressure to justify such a big investment.

The Cowboys’ ability to compete at the highest level this season remains uncertain, but if Prescott can perform well, he certainly has a shot at the MVP title. Given the team’s popularity and Prescott’s talent, a standout season could propel him into the MVP conversation, despite the high expectations and competitive landscape.
