As the 2024 NFL season kicks off, the Dallas Cowboys had one pressing issue lingering over their roster. Throughout the offseason, the team faced the challenge of securing contract extensions for their key offensive stars—Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb.
While owner Jerry Jones had pledged to invest in strengthening the roster, the Cowboys were slow to act when it came to finalizing deals with their top players. There was mounting concern that both Prescott and Lamb might hold out of games until their contracts were addressed. Fortunately for Cowboys fans, the team made the right call, agreeing to extensions with both athletes.
In Prescott’s case, the deal was finalized just hours before the Cowboys were scheduled to face the Cleveland Browns. The quarterback secured a massive four-year, $240 million contract. Todd France, Prescott’s agent, summarized the moment with two words shared via Dianna Russini of The Athletic: “Well deserved!”
Though there are still lingering doubts about Prescott’s ability to lead Dallas deep into the playoffs, locking him down was the best move the franchise could make. There are no other quarterbacks currently available who could realistically take the team to a Super Bowl.
When Prescott is at his best, he’s known for his precision passing, ability to make clutch throws under pressure, and his knack for escaping the pocket to extend plays. With his future now secured and no concerns about guaranteed money, Prescott can focus entirely on the 2024 season.
Time will tell if he can live up to the lofty expectations that come with his new deal, but for now, both Prescott and the Cowboys have committed to each other for the foreseeable future.
