In recent seasons, the Dallas Cowboys have transformed into a dominant force on both offense and defense. While Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb spearhead a high-powered offense, it’s the defense, led by stars like Micah Parsons, DeMarcus Lawrence, and Trevon Diggs, that has truly elevated the team’s profile.
Historically, the Cowboys have been celebrated for their iconic quarterbacks—names like Prescott, Roger Staubach, Troy Aikman, and Tony Romo—but as they approach the 2024 NFL season, their defense may be their strongest asset.
Dallas is poised to enter the season with one of the top defenses in the league, largely anchored by the exceptional talents of Parsons, a once-in-a-generation player. However, the Cowboys’ defensive success is built on collective effort, and some believe that a new standout could emerge this year to bolster their already formidable unit.
With cornerback Deron Bland sidelined due to a foot injury, former NFL defensive lineman Chris Long highlighted cornerback Caelen Carson as a player to watch. Long, on his “Green Light with Chris Long” podcast, emphasized Carson’s potential: “This guy’s going to have to be huge… I think he’s going to play a crucial role.”
Carson may find himself in the spotlight as opposing offenses focus their attention on containing Parsons, Diggs, and Lawrence. This could give the rising cornerback the chance to make remarkable contributions as part of a defense already packed with playmakers.
While the Cowboys’ offense will likely attract most of the buzz throughout the season, their defensive strength could be the key to a deep playoff run. If players like Carson step up, Dallas might have the defensive firepower to push for a championship in 2024.
