Every NFL season, one burning question looms: which head coach will be the first to lose their job? As the previous season wound down, whispers intensified around one name in particular—Nick Sirianni of the Philadelphia Eagles. Despite a promising start, the Eagles ended the regular season with five losses in their final six games and were decisively beaten in the wild-card round by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. There were even rumors swirling that Sirianni had lost control of the locker room.
Sports commentator Nick Wright voiced his doubts, suggesting that Sirianni’s time might be running out if the Eagles don’t hit the ground running this season. “If Philly doesn’t start strong, Sirianni might not last long,” Wright predicted on his show What’s Wright with Nick Wright. He warned that the head coach could face a mid-season dismissal if things go sideways.
Wright didn’t stop there, pointing out other head coaches also skating on thin ice, such as Dennis Allen of the New Orleans Saints, Robert Saleh of the New York Jets, and Mike McCarthy of the Dallas Cowboys. Last season, the Saints were a trendy pick to win the NFC South, only to falter, leaving the team looking like it’s on the decline.
Meanwhile, the Jets have sky-high expectations with Aaron Rodgers returning after his Achilles injury, and the Cowboys, despite constant playoff appearances, consistently fall short in the early rounds and have serious roster weaknesses.
Yet, the Eagles stand apart, boasting the most stacked roster of the bunch. Many predict a Super Bowl run, with hopes they can even take the crown. If they stumble early, however, Sirianni might find himself the first head coach sacrificed in the face of unmet expectations.
