Since his debut in the NFL in 2018, Lamar Jackson has been a dynamic force on the field, earning two MVP awards that underscore his exceptional talent. Yet, a frequent critique of Jackson is his failure to secure remarkable playoff victories for the Baltimore Ravens.
Former NFL wide receiver Keyshawn Johnson argues that while Jackson doesn’t necessarily need a Super Bowl title to affirm his greatness, a championship ring would help dispel lingering doubts about his legacy.
Johnson emphasized on “Speak” that Jackson risks being remembered as a great player without the ultimate accolade if he doesn’t win a Super Bowl. “You don’t want to be a multiple MVP winner and not have a championship ring to show for it,” Johnson remarked, highlighting that despite Jackson’s impressive accolades, critics might always add the caveat, “but … Lamar was great, but.”
Last season, Jackson made a comeback after two less impressive years, throwing for 3,678 yards and 24 touchdowns. He also set a career-high with a 67.2% completion rate and added 821 rushing yards and five touchdowns. These performances earned him his second NFL MVP award.
The previous season had seen a dip in Jackson’s numbers, hindered by a knee injury and contract disputes that nearly led him away from Baltimore. However, after securing a substantial new contract before the last season, Jackson seemed to have regained his form.
Despite having the best regular season record in 2023, the Ravens, as the top seed, fell to the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC Championship Game. The 2024 season opens with a rematch against the Chiefs, presenting Jackson and the Ravens with an opportunity to make a serious statement.
