As the 2024 NFL season kicks off, anticipation is high for several teams eager to claim the Super Bowl and the Vince Lombardi Trophy. Last year, the New York Jets generated immense excitement with the addition of quarterback Aaron Rodgers and running back Dalvin Cook. However, the Jets’ optimism was abruptly crushed when Rodgers suffered an Achilles injury on their very first offensive play, deflating all their hopes almost instantly.
This season, the enthusiasm around the Jets has returned, but Joy Taylor, the host of “Speak,” remains skeptical. Taylor describes the current hype surrounding the Jets as “completely delusional,” highlighting major concerns.
She notes that Rodgers hasn’t played a full NFL game since January 2023, and his extensive career wear and tear could affect his performance. However, Taylor points out that Rodgers’ last full season in 2022 was not stellar—he threw for 3,695 yards and 26 touchdowns, yet his passer rating was the lowest since 2006. That year, Rodgers also missed the Pro Bowl for the first time since 2017, which was marred by a broken collarbone.
Should Rodgers return to form and the Jets manage to stay relatively injury-free, there could be a path to the AFC Championship Game. However, achieving this would require a series of favorable circumstances—something the Jets have struggled with for over fifty years.
