West Indies Sweep T20 Series with Dominant Performance Against South Africa

The Windies (West Indies)

On Tuesday, West Indies secured an eight-wicket win over South Africa, completing a 3-0 T20 International series sweep despite rain disruptions. Shai Hope led the charge with an unbeaten 42 off 24 balls, while Nicholas Pooran contributed 35 off just 13 deliveries, setting up the hosts’ victory at the Brian Lara Stadium in Tarouba.

South Africa had posted 108-4 in 13 overs, leaving West Indies a revised target of 116 under the Duckworth-Lewis method. West Indies comfortably achieved their target, ending at 116-2 with 22 balls to spare. A notable 82 of those runs came from boundaries, including nine sixes and seven fours.

Romario Shepherd earned the man-of-the-match award for his impressive bowling performance, finishing with 2-14 from two overs, which significantly hindered South Africa’s progress.

This win was particularly satisfying for the West Indies team, who had been knocked out of the T20 World Cup by South Africa in June. Shepherd reflected on the victory, saying, “To come and clean sweep the team that knocked us out of the World Cup was great.”

West Indies captain Roston Chase expressed his satisfaction with the series result: “We aimed for a 3-0 series win. In a shortened game, we encouraged players to play naturally, and they delivered brilliantly.”

South Africa’s captain, Aiden Markram, who scored 20 off 12 balls, acknowledged areas for improvement: “It was a tough day, and we probably faced the tougher conditions. There’s room for improvement, and while it’s disappointing to lose, we can learn from this experience.”
