Inter Milan’s captain, Lautaro Martinez, is striving to regain full fitness ahead of Friday’s Serie A clash against Atalanta. According to reports from Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, Martinez, who is 27, is aiming to be fit enough to at least feature on the bench for the upcoming match.
Martinez missed Inter’s previous game against Lecce due to a muscle injury sustained during training after playing in the season opener against Genoa. His absence was compounded by his late return to preseason training, which was delayed due to his extended participation in the Copa America with Argentina. His commitments with the national team extended into the middle of last month, resulting in a longer vacation period that saw him rejoin the squad just over a week before the season commenced.
Despite cutting his holiday short, Martinez struggled to find his rhythm in the opener against Genoa, where his performance was noticeably lacking in sharpness. This made his subsequent muscle issue somewhat predictable. However, Martinez has been diligently working on his recovery, engaging in individual training sessions rather than team drills.
Though he has not yet resumed full training with his teammates, Martinez’s recent on-pitch work suggests he is making progress. The 27-year-old is determined to be ready for the Atalanta match, and even if he is only able to contribute as a substitute, his presence would be a boost for Inter. Martinez is putting in every effort to return to peak condition and support his team as they face Atalanta on Friday.
