$1.1 Million Mercedes-AMG Race Car for Sale—Flame-Resistant Underpants Come Free

Mercedes-AMG GT3 Edition 130Y Motorsport (Mercedes-AMG)

As Monterey Car Week 2024, Mercedes-AMG seizes the moment to reveal its latest offering: the GT3 Edition 130Y Motorsport, an uncorked race car designed for an elite clientele. This limited-edition track car, priced at around $1,134,000 (€1,030,000), is not bound by the stringent rules of professional racing, making it a tantalizing option for the fortunate 13 buyers.

Unlike its FIA-homologated counterpart, this version of the GT3 is free from performance restrictions, allowing its owners to experience unbridled power on the track. With only 13 units being produced, it’s rarer than even the iconic CLK GTR Straßenversion of the 1990s.

Mercedes-AMG celebrates 130 years with the exclusive GT3 Edition 130Y—only 13 available (Mercedes-AMG)

The GT3 Edition 130Y celebrates 130 years of Mercedes’ racing legacy, tracing back to the first-ever auto race in 1894. Powered by a naturally aspirated 6.3-liter V-8 engine, this machine delivers a staggering 671 horsepower and 538 lb-ft of torque, thanks to the absence of an FIA air restrictor and a custom exhaust system.

This horsepower is a leap from the typical 500-550 hp found in standard GT3 racers. A six-speed sequential gearbox with adjustable gear ratios channels this power to the track, while advanced aerodynamics provide 15% more downforce than the official race car.

The GT3 130Y is equipped with a wider rear wing featuring a drag reduction system (DRS) and active aero elements on the front underbody, pushing it to a top speed of 196 mph. Safety features include a carbon-fiber driver’s cell, a roll cage, and racing-spec traction control and brakes. To demonstrate its prowess, pro driver Jules Gounon set a new GT race car lap record at Mount Panorama Circuit, further cementing the GT3 130Y’s track dominance.

The 13 buyers will also receive a 1:8-scale model of the car, personalized racing gear, and a matching helmet bag, making this package a collector’s dream.
