Potential Kickers for the Packers to Consider in Place of Anders Carlson and Greg Joseph

With most teams only carrying two kickers this preseason, the Packers have taken an unusual approach by rostering three: Anders Carlson, Greg Joseph, and Alex Hale.

Despite the surplus, none of the kickers have distinguished themselves from the pack. Andy Herman has been monitoring their performance across practices, Family Night, and preseason games. Here’s a breakdown of their statistics so far:

Green Bay’s kickers, Anders Carlson, Greg Joseph, and Alex Hale, are still vying for the top spot (Green Bay Packers)
  • Greg Joseph: 52-64 (81.2%)
  • Anders Carlson: 50-62 (80.6%)
  • Alex Hale: 11-16 (68.8%)

Given the lack of standout performance, Green Bay might consider alternative options for their Week 1 kicker. Four potential candidates, either currently available or expected to be, include:

1. Randy Bullock

With 11 years in the NFL, Randy Bullock brings substantial experience, having played for several teams including the Texans and Titans. Last season, he made five of six field goals (83.3%) and all 10 extra points. While not a long-term solution, he could provide a more reliable option than the current Packers kickers.

2. Tanner Brown

After losing the kicking competition with the Rams, Tanner Brown was released last week. Though he has no NFL experience, he was highly accurate in college, making 95.7% of his field goals and missing no extra points in his final two seasons. He deserves further consideration.

3. Matthew Wright

Currently with the Steelers, Matthew Wright faces competition from Chris Boswell and might be released. Despite his tenure in the NFL, Wright has demonstrated solid accuracy, hitting 85% of his field goals and 95% of his extra points. He could be a viable option if he becomes available.

4. Austin Seibert

Austin Seibert, competing with Greg Zuerlein for the Jets’ kicker spot, may not make the final roster. Seibert had an impressive rookie year in 2019, making 86.2% of field goals, though he’s struggled with consistency since. He’s another candidate to consider if he is waived.
