Infiniti Q50 is Officially Discontinued

The Infiniti Q50 has officially reached the end of its road, with the 2024 model year marking its final appearance before it is discontinued for 2025. This marks the end of an era for Infiniti’s sedan lineup, leaving the brand with only four models, all of which are crossovers or SUVs.

The Q50, which made its debut at the North American International Auto Show in 2013, was introduced as the successor to the G37 sedan. It drew attention for its controversial steer-by-wire system, which was largely criticized but later refined with updates and the introduction of a high-performance Red Sport 400 trim boasting 400 horsepower.

Despite these enhancements, the Q50 struggled to compete with rivals like the BMW 3 Series, achieving a peak sales figure of just under 47,000 units in its most successful year.

An Infiniti representative confirmed the Q50’s discontinuation, stating that it would not be available in the U.S. and Canada beyond the 2024 model year. The spokesperson emphasized the company’s dedication to evolving its lineup, with plans to introduce four new models starting with the 2025 QX80.

They also highlighted the Q50’s strong following as a noteworthy sports sedan and hinted that its legacy would be carried forward in future electric sports sedans, as previewed by the Vision Qe concept revealed last October.

The end of the Q50 follows the discontinuation of its two-door coupe counterpart, the Q60, which was retired in 2022. The Q60, similar in design and powertrain to the Q50 but sportier, was removed from the North American market to allow Infiniti to concentrate on more popular luxury segments such as crossovers and SUVs.

As Infiniti shifts its focus, the departure of the Q50 marks a remarkable moment for the brand, leaving a noticeable gap in their sedan offerings. The Q50 will be remembered fondly by its enthusiasts, even as Infiniti embraces new directions in its vehicle lineup.
