Former Commanders CB Signs with Detroit Lions

With the regular NFL season quickly approaching, injuries have already become a major concern for many teams, including the Detroit Lions. Recently, the Lions have experienced several setbacks in their cornerback rotation.

Head coach Dan Campbell’s squad has seen players like Ennis Rakestraw, Terrion Arnold, Carlton Davis, and Amik Robertson suffer injuries in recent weeks. These absences have forced the Lions to seek additional depth in the secondary, leading them to sign Rachad Wildgoose.

Entering his fourth year in the NFL, Wildgoose was originally drafted in the sixth round by the Buffalo Bills. He has since appeared in 20 games throughout his career, including 15 outings with the Washington Commanders during the 2022 season. While Wildgoose didn’t play at all last year, he logged five appearances for the New York Jets back in 2021.

The Lions have been actively reshaping their cornerback group, adding Javelin Guidry and Essang Bassey to bolster their depth. Alongside his cornerback duties, Wildgoose has made an impact on special teams, participating in 119 special team snaps across his 20 career games. His recent success with the Birmingham Stallions of the UFL also highlights his readiness to contribute.

While Rakestraw has returned to practice and could soon rejoin the team, both Davis and Robertson are still limited, and Arnold remains out but is expected to recover before the season begins. If injuries persist, the Lions may choose to retain Wildgoose.
