Fort Frye Triumphs Over Waterford in Heated Rivalry Game

Fort Frye’s volleyball team managed to secure a win against rival Waterford in their season opener, despite encountering challenges such as seven service errors in the second set. The match, which ended with scores of 25-23, 24-26, 25-18, and 25-23, showcased the Cadets’ resilience.

Leading the charge for Fort Frye was Carmen Henniger with a match-high 14 kills, supported by Paige Morgenstern’s 11 kills, Elle Casto’s nine, and Haven Shilling’s seven, all under the guidance of head coach Amanda Duskey.

Despite a commanding 19-11 lead in the fourth set, thanks to Jaden Cox’s service point, the Cadets faced a strong comeback from Waterford, driven by Hadley Offenberger, who recorded 14 kills.

Although Makiah Samuels’ late kill brought Waterford within one point, Henniger’s decisive final kill, assisted by Aubrie Lang’s 25 assists, clinched the victory for Fort Frye. Coach Duskey acknowledged the team’s struggles, particularly with serving errors, but praised their ability to adapt and regain momentum.

Fort Frye’s strong start included a 15-9 lead in the first set, propelled by Morgenstern’s ace. Waterford’s Maya Wilson, with a service point, helped equalize at 22, but Emmie Duskey’s set-winning spike gave the Cadets the edge.

In set two, Fort Frye’s Huck’s assist to Henniger created a 24-23 lead, but a service error allowed Waterford to level the match. The Cadets regained control in set three, with Lacy Ludwig and other teammates contributing key plays.

Despite a valiant effort from Waterford in the fourth set, including a lead of 3-1, Fort Frye responded with a six-point run, eventually sealing the match with Henniger’s final spike. Waterford’s coach Alaina McAuley recognized the team’s fighting spirit but emphasized the need for improvement on small details and player positioning.
