Despite Tom Aspinall’s Claims, Jon Jones Vows to ‘Finish Strong’ Like Mayweather and Brady

Jon Jones has spent over a decade dedicating his career to the UFC, where he made history as the youngest UFC champion by overcoming some of the toughest opponents. Now in the later stage of his career, Jones is drawing inspiration from figures like Floyd Mayweather and Tom Brady.

At 37 years old, Jones is gearing up for a legacy-defining bout against former champion Stipe Miocic. This fight marks his first defense of the heavyweight title he won at UFC 285. Meanwhile, interim champion Tom Aspinall is eager for a chance to fight Jones, but it appears that after defeating Miocic, Jones plans to follow in the footsteps of legends like Brady and Mayweather by retiring at the top.

Jones expressed his thoughts on social media, saying, “I’m 37 now, I’ve beaten everyone. My goal is to finish strong, make a memorable exit, and join the ranks of Tom Brady and Floyd Mayweather.”

Mayweather famously retired with a flawless 50-0 record after defeating MMA star Conor McGregor. He retired without sustaining major injuries and has since participated in lucrative exhibition fights. Jones, who only has one disqualification loss on his record, hopes to clear that blemish with current MMA rule changes.

Jones seems inclined to retire like Tom Brady, who left the NFL on his own terms after a successful career. Brady’s last seasons included a Super Bowl win with the Buccaneers and other impressive performances, leaving fans wanting more. Jones appears to be pursuing a similar exit strategy.

Despite retirement talks, Jones acknowledges there could be a chance to fight Tom Aspinall if the right offer presents itself. Although some fans are critical of Jones fighting Miocic, preferring Aspinall instead, Jones has consistently dismissed the idea, citing Aspinall’s lack of popularity.

Interim champion Aspinall has accused Jones of stalling the division, but Jones believes a victory over Miocic would be the perfect end to his illustrious career. However, he also hinted that the UFC could tempt him into continuing, saying, “It’s nice to know that people still want to see me fight. Maybe the UFC will offer me something I can’t refuse.”

Dana White has been vocal in supporting Jones, frequently defending his position as one of the sport’s greatest fighters. With the upcoming event at Madison Square Garden, the anticipation surrounding Jones’ future continues to grow.
