Deauville Festival Announces Daisy Ridley as the Recipient of the Hollywood Rising Star Award

The Deauville Film Festival, marking its 50th anniversary this year, will honor Daisy Ridley with the Hollywood Rising Star Award. Ridley is scheduled to attend the ceremony in Deauville, continuing a tradition that includes previous recipients such as Emilia Clarke (2023), Ana de Armas (2022), Paul Dano (2012), and Robert Pattinson (2015). Ryan Gosling and Jessica Chastain were the inaugural winners of this award in 2011.

Known for her dynamic portrayal of Rey in the “Star Wars” trilogy alongside Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, and John Boyega, Ridley has also made her mark in various genres. Her credits include Kenneth Branagh’s “Murder on the Orient Express,” Claire McCarthy’s “Ophelia,” Rachel Lambert’s “Sometimes I Think About Dying,” and Sam Yates’ “Magpie,” which premiered at this year’s SXSW Festival.

Ridley’s latest project is “Young Woman and the Sea,” directed by Joachim Rønning and released by Disney. The film, based on Glenn Stout’s novel, chronicles the life of Gertrude “Trudy” Ederle, the first woman to swim across the English Channel.

In addition to Ridley’s accolade, Michael Douglas will be celebrated as the guest of honor at the festival’s opening night on Sept. 6. The Deauville Film Festival is now led by Aude Hesbert, who took over after the suspension of longtime artistic director Bruno Barde, following sexual misconduct allegations reported on June 13 by Mediapart. Hesbert previously worked at Unifrance and recently led the French film and TV residency program Villa Albertine in Los Angeles.
