U.K. and Ireland Box Office Crown ‘It Ends With Us,’ ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ Thrives, ‘Alien: Romulus’ Anticipated

Top of the box office charts in the U.K. and Ireland this week is Sony’s “It Ends With Us,” which debuted with £4.5 million ($5.7 million) according to Comscore. The film’s impressive start faced strong competition from Disney’s “Deadpool & Wolverine,” which remained in second place during its third week, earning £4 million and boosting its total to £42.9 million.

In third place, Universal’s “Despicable Me 4” maintained its appeal in its fifth week with £1.5 million, bringing its cumulative earnings to £35.5 million. Warner Bros.’ “Trap” had a successful debut, entering the chart at No. 4 with £1.1 million.

Lionsgate U.K.’s “Borderlands” made its entrance at No. 5, with £843,159 in its opening weekend. Meanwhile, Warner Bros.’ “Twisters” continued to perform well in its fourth week, adding £619,801 to push its total beyond £12 million.

Disney’s “Inside Out 2” displayed impressive staying power, holding on to the seventh position in its ninth week with £618,055, lifting its total to £54.1 million. Sony’s “Harold and the Purple Crayon” slid to eighth place in its second week, accumulating £215,080 for a total of £1.4 million.

Black Bear’s “Longlegs” held firm at No. 9 in its fifth week, with £212,841, and a nostalgic one-week re-release of Sony’s “Spider-Man 2” rounded out the top ten, making £208,243 and adding to its historic total of £26.7 million.

Looking ahead, Thursday, August 15, 2024, will see the 15th anniversary re-release of “Coraline” from Trafalgar Releasing, alongside Bollywood films such as “Khel Khel Mein,” starring Akshay Kumar, and the sequel “Stree 2,” from Bakrania Media. Telugu-language action-drama “Mr. Bachchan,” led by Ravi Teja, will also be released by Dreamz Entertainment.

On Friday, August 16, Disney’s eagerly awaited “Alien: Romulus,” directed by Fede Alvarez and featuring Cailee Spaeny, Isabela Merced, Archie Renaux, and David Jonsson, will debut at over 300 locations. Sony will reissue “Spider-Man 3” for a limited run.

Picturehouse Entertainment will introduce “Only The River Flows,” a Cannes-debuting crime drama by Wei Shujun, while Curzon will present the Venice-featured Taliban documentary “Hollywoodgate.”

Other releases include Zee Studios International’s Bollywood drama “Vedaa,” starring John Abraham and Sharvari, and a 4K restoration of John Sayles’ “Lone Star” from Park Circus. The weekend lineup is completed by Dogwoof’s SXSW title “Swan Song” and Vue Entertainment’s family film, “Ryan’s World The Movie: Titan Universe Adventure.”
