Satirical Thriller ‘You Are Not Me’ Acquired by Music Box’s Doppelganger for U.S. Distribution

Doppelgänger Releasing, under Music Box Films, has secured U.S. distribution rights for the satirical thriller “You Are Not Me” from Global Screen. The film is set to premiere in select theaters, followed by its release on home entertainment platforms.

“You Are Not Me” (original title “Tú no eres yo”) marks the feature debut of Marisa Crespo and Moisés Romera, both previously nominated for a Goya Award. The Spanish-language film first debuted at Fantastic Fest in Austin and later had its international premiere at the Imagine Film Festival in Amsterdam.

The plot revolves around Aitana, who returns home for Christmas after a three-year absence, only to discover that her parents have replaced her with a stranger. This intruder, who is the same age as Aitana, sleeps in her bed, wears her clothes, and lives in her home, all while being treated as their daughter.

Consumed by jealousy and confusion, Aitana embarks on a quest to uncover the truth about this mysterious woman, leading to a shocking and bloody revelation far darker than she could have imagined.

Brian Andreotti of Music Box Films and Doppelgänger Releasing commented on the film’s unsettling nature, stating that it takes a surprise visit home and transforms it into an unexpected journey. He praised directors Crespo and Romera for capturing the eerie tension that can arise when reconnecting with family after a long time, eventually crafting a chilling holiday thriller.

Crespo and Romera have previously garnered attention with their short film “9 Steps,” which earned them a Méliès d’Argent for Best European Short Film. They are now working on developing a feature-length version of “9 Steps” and a fiction series titled “Future Is Not What It Used to Be.”

Global Screen’s recent ventures into elevated genre films include “The Trek,” a supernatural survival horror directed by Meekaaeel Adam, and the thriller “Sleep,” featuring Sandra Hüller, which explores the terrifying consequences of horrific dreams that haunt an entire village.
