Joining the cast of Masters of the Universe, Camila Mendes will take on the role of Teela, alongside Nicholas Galitzine, who will portray He-Man. Mendes, known for her role in Riverdale, steps into the film as Teela, a warrior tasked with safeguarding the royal family of Eternia. Galitzine’s character,

He-Man, is a blond barbarian with a mission to protect his home planet from the evil Skeletor. The plot remains largely undisclosed, but earlier studio summaries reveal that the story revolves around Prince Adam, also known as He-Man, who as a child crashes to Earth in a spaceship. Decades later, he returns to Eternia to combat Skeletor.

To overcome this formidable foe, He-Man must delve into his past and embrace his destiny as “the most powerful man in the universe.” Teela, while primarily a protector of Eternia’s royalty, might also become romantically involved with Prince Adam.

Travis Knight, recognized for Bumblebee, is directing the film for Amazon MGM Studios and Mattel. Scheduled for release on June 5, 2026, the project has experienced serious delays. Chris Butler is handling the screenplay, following initial drafts by David Callaham and the Nee brothers, inspired by the 1982 action figure.

Masters of the Universe is part of a broader slate of films under development by Mattel Films, including Daniel Kaluuya’s Barney, Jennifer Lopez and Anthony Ramos’s Bob the Builder, Lil Yachty’s Uno, and Vin Diesel’s Rock ‘Em Sock ‘Em Robots.

Mattel’s sole film release to date is the successful Barbie for Warner Bros. Mendes’ recent work includes Upgraded and Música from Amazon MGM, and Do Revenge on Netflix. She is represented by CAA, Luber Roklin Entertainment, and Hansen Jacobsen Teller & Hoberman.
