Disney Legends Award Presented to Harrison Ford at D23 as He Expresses Love for His Career

At the D23 Expo on Sunday, Ford received a prestigious hall-of-fame-style award from the Walt Disney Company. His iconic roles, such as Han Solo from “Star Wars” and Indiana Jones, have firmly established him as a figure in the studio’s history. Ford’s storied career continues with a role in Marvel Studios’ “Captain America: Brave New World” next February, where he will portray Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross, who famously becomes Red Hulk.

Bob Iger took the stage to present Ford with the evening’s first accolade. “Before becoming the captain of the Millennium Falcon or a renowned archaeologist, Harrison Ford was just another aspiring actor chasing his Hollywood dreams,” Iger said, eliciting a roar of applause from the audience at the Honda Center.

“He represents the epitome of a leading man, standing in a league of his own.” After a tribute video highlighting Ford’s most memorable roles, he was met with a standing ovation. In a nod to his famous “Star Wars” line, Ford responded to the crowd with, “I love you, too.”

Expressing his gratitude, Ford said, “I cherish the life and opportunities I’ve been given and the people I’ve collaborated with. This industry thrives on collaboration, and it’s an honor to be a part of that.” He also praised Iger for his impact on his career and friendship.

Ford’s emotional acceptance was a highlight of the ceremony, which also saw outstanding figures like composer John Williams and Frank Oz honored. This year’s class of 2024 includes a diverse array of talents, from costume designer Colleen Atwood to Disney Imagineer Joe Rohde. The ceremony will be available for streaming on Disney+ starting August 12.

Ford’s heartfelt speeches have become a touching trend, with his January acceptance at the Critics Choice Association also showcasing his emotional side. He attributed his success to luck and the support of his colleagues and family, including his wife, Calista Flockhart, and co-stars like Ke Huy Quan.
