Jarrell Quansah is Primed and Ready to Tackle the Season

At the start of this year, Jarell Quansah quietly transitioned from being a “fill-in centerback from the Academy” to a “likely partner to Virgil Van Dijk” for Liverpool. He played the full 90 minutes against Sevilla on Sunday, a match that, while a friendly, suggests that stability and continuity are preferred in defense.

Initially stepping in during injury concerns, Quansah is now set to enter the 2024/25 season as a first-choice option alongside Van Dijk. While his consistent fitness is a factor, much of his selection is attributed to his style of play.

Liverpool’s centerback situation remains in flux between “needing more defensive options” and “settling on a lineup.” While Ibrahima Konaté offers potential, there are still areas for improvement. Joe Gomez could challenge for a starting spot, but his future at the club is uncertain.

Quansah, a local product by default, has emerged with little fanfare.
