Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis are reuniting on screen once again. During the Walt Disney Studios presentation at D23, the much-anticipated title of “Freaky Friday 2” was revealed as “Freakier Friday.”

Curtis shared her excitement with the lively audience, remarking that it feels as though no time has passed. Lohan noted that they’ve stayed connected over the years, and Curtis agreed, adding that it feels like they’re continuing right from where they left off.

After this, the first trailer for Nisha Ganatra’s “Freaky Friday 2” was shown, featuring Curtis and Lohan reprising their roles. The film is a sequel to the 2003 comedy “Freaky Friday,” where Curtis and Lohan portrayed the iconic mother-daughter pair, Tess and Anna Coleman.

Returning alongside Curtis and Lohan are familiar faces like Chad Michael Murray, Mark Harmon, Christina Vidal Mitchell, Haley Hudson, Lucille Soong, Stephen Tobolowsky, and Rosalind Chao. New cast members include Manny Jacinto from “The Acolyte,” Maitreyi Ramakrishnan of “Never Have I Ever,” Sophia Hammons, and Julia Butters.

The original movie, adapted from Mary Rodgers’ 1972 novel, followed Tess and Anna, who, after receiving a mystical fortune cookie, end up switching bodies and are compelled to raise each other’s lives.

According to Disney, the sequel introduces a “multigenerational twist,” set years after the first body swap, with Anna now being a mother herself. The plot explores the challenges of merging families and teases the possibility of another mystical event.

In March 2024, Disney officially confirmed that the sequel was moving forward, with Ganatra directing. Ganatra is known for directing episodes of Hulu’s “Welcome to Chippendales” and Max’s “And Just Like That…” as well as films like “The High Note” and “Late Night.”

Curtis had previously hinted at her desire for a sequel during an interview on “The View” in October 2022, where she revealed that she had reached out to Disney about the idea.

The original film’s producer, Andrew Gunn, is returning to produce the sequel, joined by former Disney executive Kristin Burr.

While Disney hasn’t announced a specific release date for “Freaky Friday 2,” they have confirmed that the film will be released in theaters in 2025.
