Pixar introduced its latest venture on Friday night at the D23 Expo, showcasing “Hoppers,” a body-swap film featuring the voices of Jon Hamm, Bobby Moynihan, and Piper Curda.
The plot centers on Mabel, a young girl who can transfer her consciousness into a robot beaver to blend in with the animal kingdom. Her mission leads her to make friends with King George, a noble beaver, and rally the animals against a real estate developer’s schemes. The film is scheduled for release in spring 2026.
Jon Hamm, known for his Emmy-winning role in “Mad Men” and his recent nomination for “Fargo,” will voice a conniving mayor with development ambitions. Piper Curda, who voices Mabel, is recognized for her roles on Disney Channel’s “A.N.T. Farm” and CW’s “Legacies.” Bobby Moynihan, a veteran of “Saturday Night Live,” voices Forgetter Bobby in Pixar’s “Inside Out 2.” This announcement follows Disney’s successful summer, highlighted by the box office hit “Inside Out 2.”
The sequel, released nine years after the original “Inside Out,” exceeded expectations with Riley, now a teenager, grappling with new emotional challenges at a hockey camp and the pressures of adolescence. The film earned an impressive $1.5 billion worldwide, becoming the highest-grossing animated movie ever and the 10th highest-grossing film of all time. It marked a remarkable recovery for Pixar following the less successful “Lightyear,” “Turning Red,” and “Luca.”
In 2025, Pixar will release “Elio,” a space adventure featuring America Ferrera, Jameela Jamil, and others. The story follows Elio, an imaginative underdog who is accidentally transported to the Communiverse, a galactic organization. Mistaken for Earth’s representative, Elio must pass alien cultures, face daunting trials, and uncover his true purpose.
