Jaguar’s Upcoming EV Concept in December Precedes a Year Without New Car Sales

Jaguar is committed to its transition to an all-electric lineup starting next year, despite current fluctuations in EV demand. The company is preparing to retire its existing models and introduce a key concept car that will set the stage for its new electric era.

The forthcoming models will represent a remarkable departure from Jaguar’s previous designs, both in appearance and function. Although specifics are limited, the December reveal will showcase a groundbreaking £100k four-door GT, which promises over 435 miles of range, rapid charging capabilities, and a dual-motor setup generating more than 575bhp. This concept will not only preview the GT but also establish the design ethos for future vehicles, including a luxury SUV and a high-end limousine anticipated by 2028.

Jaguar Managing Director Rawdon Glover has highlighted a new approach to EV design, aiming to differentiate Jaguar from other electric vehicles that often share similar aesthetics due to aerodynamic considerations. Glover is determined to disrupt the conventional EV design mold and make a meaningful impact on the market.

Expected features of the new models include elongated, streamlined bonnets, minimalist front profiles with a novel grille design, and ultra-slim LED lights. The vehicles may also omit traditional rear windows, akin to the Polestar 4.

Glover reassured that the iconic leaping cat logo will be updated rather than eliminated, and hinted that classic names will influence the new models. The debut of the GT will occur in the US, underscoring its importance to Jaguar, though the brand remains committed to its British roots.

In response to shifting strategies among competitors—such as Porsche extending the Cayenne’s production, Audi focusing more on hybrids, and Mercedes-Benz prolonging its plug-in hybrid offerings—Jaguar is ramping up its electrification investment to £18 billion. Despite the current market challenges, Glover is confident that Jaguar’s innovative designs and strategic focus will strengthen its market position.

As Jaguar transitions, it has halted production of the XE, XF, and F-Type, with the E-Pace and I-Pace to cease by the end of the year. The F-Pace will continue until 2025. Glover noted that there will be a period without new Jaguar models in the UK until the electric GT arrives in 2026. During this interim, retailers will focus on used car sales and aftersales services.
