Highly-Rated Rookie Omits Patrick Mahomes from List of Top Quarterbacks

Patrick Mahomes (Kansas City Chiefs)

Patrick Mahomes of the Kansas City Chiefs received an extra boost of motivation after his peers placed him fourth in the NFL’s Top 100 Players of 2024. The situation intensified when Chicago Bears rookie Caleb Williams, the first overall pick, named Matthew Stafford and Aaron Rodgers as his top two quarterbacks, seriously excluding Mahomes.

Williams conveyed his respect for Stafford’s play during his time with Detroit, revealing on the Up & Adams Show that his appreciation deepened as he matured and better understood the game. “I didn’t grasp his talent when he was with Detroit,” Williams noted on August 8. “But as I’ve grown, I’ve come to realize just how incredible he is.”

Williams also expressed astonishment at Stafford’s 42nd place ranking in the NFL’s Top 100 Players of 2024. He regards Rodgers as the sole quarterback he believes surpasses Stafford in terms of skill.

This comparison underscores a broader debate over quarterback excellence, with Mahomes frequently cited as the premier quarterback in the league. Although Stafford and Rodgers are undoubtedly outstanding in their own right, neither has a resume that rivals Mahomes’s, solidifying his position as the leading quarterback in today’s NFL.
