Colorado GOP Rep. Lauren Boebert accompanied her teenage son to court for the first time on Thursday, showing her support during his criminal theft proceedings while also using the moment to take a swipe at Vice President Kamala Harris on social media.
Tyler Boebert, 19, appeared in the Garfield County Courthouse, dressed in a dark suit and tie, with his attorney, William Trent Palmer, by his side. Lauren Boebert, wearing a yellow dress and heels, sat in the front row as Judge John Neiley inquired about any progress in the case.
Just before her son’s case was heard, Lauren Boebert posted a tweet at 8:07 a.m. local time, criticizing Harris and her running mate, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, while also rallying support for former President Donald Trump’s upcoming press conference.
By 8:13 a.m., the congresswoman had moved into the courtroom, where she was seen typing on her phone as the hearing was streamed live. As Tyler stood before the judge, Lauren was observed mouthing something to him from her seat.
Tyler Boebert has had multiple court appearances since his February arrest by the Rifle Police Department, linked to a series of car break-ins and thefts in Rifle, Colorado. During one hearing, he mentioned financial difficulties in securing legal representation.
Though Lauren Boebert has been publicly supportive of Trump, even attending his New York criminal trial, this marked her first court appearance in her son’s case. The judge inquired about ongoing discussions between the attorneys, and Deputy District Attorney Virginia Sorrell acknowledged receiving a litigation packet from Palmer that required her review.
