In a recent press release detailing the 2024 Dodge Charger Daytona EV pricing, an intriguing feature emerged: the “Frunk” is listed as part of the $4,995 Plus Group. This suggests that the front trunk is an optional extra.
A Dodge representative confirmed to Motor1 that this is indeed the case. Surprisingly, Dodge is not the only manufacturer to make such a choice. In the U.K., Audi’s new Q6 E-Tron also offers its frunk as a £500 optional feature.
Although Audi has not yet provided details for the U.S. version of the Q6 E-Tron, it seems this practice is relatively rare. The Charger Daytona EV’s frunk is modest, providing just 1.5 cubic feet of space, sufficient for items like charging cables.
The Plus Group package includes several other enhancements, such as cooled seats, LED lighting, a power rear hatch, wireless phone charging, and 20-inch wheels for the base R/T model, among other features. Nonetheless, the decision to exclude a basic piece of molded plastic under the hood as standard seems peculiar. With the new Charger Daytona unlikely to match the profitability of the previous gas-powered Charger and Challenger models, Dodge is clearly seeking to optimize costs wherever possible.
The Charger Daytona’s base R/T model starts at $61,950, with the Scat Pack version priced at $75,185, though both are eligible for a $7,500 tax credit when leased. Dodge has indicated that future model years will offer a broader range of options within the muscle car segment.
