In a thrilling match last night, Malaysian men’s badminton singles player Lee Zii Jia secured his first Olympic medal and Malaysia’s second bronze at Paris 2024 by defeating India’s Lakshya Sen. After dropping the first set 13-21, Lee made a strong comeback, winning the second set 21-16 and forcing a decisive third set. Dominating the final set, Lee won 21-11, placing both himself and Malaysia’s flag on the podium.
Following the example set by doubles pair Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik, who earned Malaysia’s first medal at Paris 2024, Lee will also be rewarded with a brand-new Chery Tiggo 7 Pro valued at RM123,800. His impressive performance included remarkable diving returns that defied physics.
Chery expressed its pride and congratulations on Facebook, celebrating Lee’s remarkable achievement. “We stand together to celebrate the triumph of our nation’s finest athletes! Lee Zii Jia’s exceptional skill and precision have propelled Malaysia towards victory.
At Chery, we are thrilled to honor our Malaysian champion and the substantial impact he has made. Congratulations, Lee Zii Jia!” The carmaker also announced that silver medalists will receive an Omoda E5 electric SUV, while the gold medalist will drive home a Tiggo 8 Pro. Speculation is that ‘Pocket Rocketman’ Datuk Azizulhasni Awang might be the recipient.
Chery Auto Malaysia President Leo Chen stated in June, “We understand the hard work and dedication our athletes have put in. We hope Malaysia will achieve the gold medal this year, and we will support our athletes throughout.” National Sports Council Director-General Abdul Rashid Yaakub added, “Chery Malaysia’s pledge to reward successful athletes is greatly appreciated and should motivate them to excel and make the nation proud.”
