Honda Civic 2024 Facelift Launches in Japan: Hatchback Only, New RS Variant with 1.5T and

Honda has uncovered photos and early details of the refreshed 11th-generation Civic, which is set to launch in Japan this fall. Unlike Malaysia, where the Civic is available as a sedan, the Japanese market will only see the hatchback version.

A key highlight of this update is the introduction of a new RS variant, which was initially teased as a “prototype” at this year’s Tokyo Auto Salon. The RS variant features a 1.5-liter turbocharged inline-four engine, producing 182 PS (180 hp or 134 kW) and 240 Nm of torque, the same as the pre-facelift EX and LX trims, but with a six-speed manual transmission driving the front wheels.

Early details and photos of the 11th-generation Civic refresh were uncovered by Honda (Honda)

For enthusiasts, the RS includes a rev-matching function similar to the one in the Type R, eliminating the need for heel-and-toe downshifting. Additional performance enhancements include RS-specific suspension tuning, a lowered ride height by five millimeters, and selectable drive modes. The exterior is distinguished by RS badges and additional black accents.

The facelifted Civic also features a redesigned front bumper, with the RS version sporting larger air curtains at the corners. The RS model’s rear design includes exposed tailpipes, setting it apart from other trims. Buyers can customize their Civic with various accessories, such as a rear wing, fog lamps, and additional bumper and skirting options.

In addition to the RS, the Civic will be available with Honda’s e
hybrid powertrain in LX and EX variants. This setup likely includes a 2.0-liter naturally aspirated inline-four engine generating 141 PS (139 hp or 104 kW) and 182 Nm, which charges a battery powering an electric motor rated at 184 PS (181 hp or 135 kW) and 315 Nm. At higher speeds, the engine can directly drive the wheels via a lock-up clutch for enhanced efficiency.
