Geely has officially introduced the Galaxy E5 EV in China, following its initial reveal in May. This all-electric SUV, which will serve as the foundation for the upcoming Proton eMas 7, is now available in five different variants in its home market.
The E5’s pricing is lower than initially anticipated. During pre-sales, the SUV was expected to be priced between 123,000 yuan and 157,000 yuan (RM76,200 to RM97,200). However, the launch prices are now set between 112,800 yuan and 148,800 yuan (RM69,700 to RM92,000), according to CarNewsChina.
Additionally, Geely announced that buyers who purchase before October 1 will receive a 3,000 yuan (RM1,850) discount, bringing the starting price down to 109,800 yuan (RM67,850).
The E5 measures 4,615 mm in length, 1,901 mm in width, and 1,670 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,750 mm. It is built on Geely’s Electric Architecture (GEA) platform, derived from the Sustainable Experience Architecture (SEA). This platform is versatile and capable of accommodating an internal combustion engine for various hybrid and alternative fuel applications.
In the E5, the battery is fully integrated into the car’s body structure (cell-to-body or CTB), enhancing the vehicle’s torsional rigidity to 31,000 Nm per degree and achieving a 50:50 front-to-rear axle load balance.
All variants are equipped with a front-mounted electric motor producing 218 PS (215 hp or 160 kW) and 320 Nm of torque, allowing the SUV to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.9 seconds and reach a top speed of 180 km/h. The powertrain includes Geely’s Galaxy 11-in-1 intelligent drive system, which consolidates essential components into a compact, lightweight unit.
The E5 is powered by a lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery pack with two capacity options: 49.52 kWh for a range of up to 440 km and 60.22 kWh for up to 530 km, based on CLTC standards. The WLTP-rated range for both packs is expected to be about 20% lower.
Inside, the Galaxy E5 features an interior space of up to 4.03 square meters, with elements like a large floating central infotainment screen, a 10.2-inch driver’s instrument display, and a head-up display.
The central display is a 15.4-inch touchscreen with 2.5K resolution, powered by a Dragon Eagle One 7 nm CPU, running the Flyme Auto system from Meizu, designed to be as user-friendly as a smartphone. Higher-end models include a 16-speaker audio system with headrest speakers.
The interior also offers 33 storage compartments, making it the best in its class, with additional drawers under the rear air vents and seats. For exterior colors, the Galaxy E5 will be available in eight options: red, pink, gray, green, white, silver, black, and blue.
