Quinta Brunson, an Emmy-winning talent behind Abbott Elementary, is venturing into film with a new comedy, Par for the Course, which will be produced by Universal Pictures. Brunson, known for her versatility, is not only starring in but also co-writing and producing the film. She will be joined by Stephanie Hsu, celebrated for her role in Everything Everywhere All At Once.
Brunson’s production will be managed through her Fifth Chance banner, in collaboration with Seth Rogen’s Point Grey Pictures. This marks Point Grey’s first project under its first-look deal with Universal.
The screenplay, co-written by Brunson and Abbott Elementary writer Justin Tan, will be directed by Tan, who is making his feature directorial debut. Alex McAtee will produce on behalf of Point Grey, while Erik Baiers and Jacqueline Garell will supervise the project for Universal. The details of the comedy’s plot are being kept confidential.
Brunson expressed her enthusiasm about working with Point Grey and Universal, highlighting the personal importance of the project. She is represented by CAA, Strig Artist Management, and Del Shaw, and will next appear in the fourth season of her acclaimed ABC sitcom. Hsu, also repped by CAA, recently featured in The Fall Guy and will soon be seen in Peacock’s Laid and lend her voice to The Wild Robot.
